Certification Program

NJASBO is a professional association that promotes the highest standards of ethics and efficiency, provides its membership with professional development and support, and collaborates with entities that affect public education.

WHY CERTIFICATION?

The State of NJ mandates that anyone employed in the position of School Business Administrator be certified for that position.

SESSION DAYS/LOCATION

All classes are scheduled virtually on Saturdays unless otherwise noted. All classes are held virtually due to the Pandemic restrictions. If restrictions are lifted, classes MAY resume in person.

REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for the School Business Administrator Certificate of Eligibility the candidate shall: hold a Master's Degree or higher or be in possession of a Certified Public Accountant License and complete at least 18 credits of study in the following areas:

(a) Economic (b) Law; (c) Accounting; (d) Organizational Theory; (e) Management or Administration and (f) Finance (6A:9B-12.7). A Master's Degree in a recognized field of administration shall be accepted as meeting the above requirements. Candidates may apply for a Certificate of Eligibility online through the Department of Education/Licensing and Credentials http://www.nj.gov/education/educators/license/endorsements/0109CE.pdf Once the Certificate of Eligibility is obtained, the individual is able to seek employment in any district within the state. Once employed, the individual will receive their Provisional Certificate and begin their mentoring. Under the guidance of a mentor, the individual will complete a one year residency, which will include 145 clock hours of instruction as determined by the mentor and NJASBO.

TRAINING

The 145 Clock Hours are contained within the following disciplines; School Finance/Accounting/Reporting (52 hours); Insurance/Risk Management (20 hours); Economic & Legal Ramifications (20 hours); Labor Relations/Personnel Management (20 hours); School Plant Planning (20 hours); Food Service (3 hours); Pupil Transportation (5 hours) and Core Curriculum Content Standards (5 hours).

Due to the pandemic, classes will consist of a combination of virtual instruction, webinars and projects. Preference will be given to those currently in a School Business Administrator or Assistant School Business Administrator position. School Law (Economic & Legal Ramifications): begins on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and will run for 4 weeks (Wednesdays & Saturdays) through January 30, 2021. 

Dates of class are as follows:

Week 1: Wednesday, January 6th - 6pm-8pm & Saturday, January 9th - 8am-10am

Week 2: Wednesday, January 13th - 6pm-8pm & Saturday, January 16th - 8am-10am

Week 3: Wednesday, January 20th - 6pm-8pm & Saturday, January 23rd - 8am-10am

Week 4: Wednesday, January 27th - 6pm-8pm & Saturday, January 30th - 8am-10am
