Professional Development Programs

 

               

IN-SERVICE PROGRAMS

NJASBO provides monthly in-service programs on topics that provide information and awareness on current issues that School Business Administrators and other professionals face on a day to day basis.

 

All in-service programs are from 9:00am to 12 noon with registration beginning at 8:30am.  Lunch is included.  Each in-service program is $100/person/program.  There is NO subscription plan available for the 2019-2020 year. 

 

Cancellations must be received at least 72 hours prior to in-service date to received credit.  If you do not cancel and do not attend you are still responsible for payment of the registration fee.

 

Please Note:  All QPA Credits are pending review by DCA.  Schedules subject to change.  

 

To register more than one person for a seminar, once the first person has registered,  sign out.  The next individual can register by either signing in under their profile or just click on register and follow the prompts (no profile is necessary).

Susan Kutner, Director, Office of School Facility Planning, will lead a live website demo and hands-on instruction on how to update your district’s Long Range Facility Plan (LRFP).  Please bring your laptop, questions, and your information (user name and password) to sign in to your LRFP!!  Ms. Kutner will also be able to discuss and answer questions on the project requirements and LRFP and as they pertain to the Release of the Securing Our Chidren’s Future Bond Act – Preliminary Guidelines. 

 

There is no cost for this program, however you must register as seating is limited.

This two part program will begin with Mr. Jim Shoop, (retired B.A/QPA) giving an update and best practices on Purchasing regulations and laws according to 18A:18A including bidding RFP's, Quotes, and Ethical Issues.

 

The second part will be given by Ms. Africa Nelson, NJ Department of the Treasury, Division of Purchase and Property will provide an overview of the NJStart state contract website.  This presentation will walk the audience through the specifics of how to research a state contract through their website.

Presenter Kathryn Mantell, Partner, Nisivoccia, LLP will provide an update on the 2019-2020 audit program requirements.  She will also review what documents the business office should have available to perform the audit, as well as the audit recommendations that seem to be recurring annually.

Administrative Assistant Program

This program is strictly for the support personnel who work in the Administrative Offices of a school district.  Attorney Anthony Sciarrillo will facilitate a program based upon topic requests from attendees, as well as topics that Mr. Sciarrillo see as pertinent to participants.  This is a full day program beginning at 9am and going to 3pm.  Topics to be included will be agenda/minute requirements, OPRA, OPMA, Tenure and Seniority, and Legislative Updates (earned sick leave requirements, Janus Decision, Workplace Democracy Act).

Part 1 – The New Jersey Department of Education Office of Grants Management will provide an overview of the grants systems, entitlement grants and conduct an interactive FAQ session. 

Part 2The New Jersey Department of Education Office of Preschool Education and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture will provide a joint AFTERNOON session regarding Preschool Expansion Aid Financial information, including budgeting and reporting as well as meal requirements and funding options (CACFP/NSLP) as they pertain to Preschool students. The afternoon session is optional to all registrants.

The Academy Program has been developed for School Business Administrators and Assistant School Business Administrators with 5 or less years of experience and also for those who are going through their Mentoring Program.  It is designed to strengthen the core knowledge and skills of newly appointed School Business Administrators and Assistant School Business Administrators by meeting with experienced School Business Administrators and other professionals, in a small group setting.

Budget Guidelines and Software Review

Neil Cramer, Executive County Business Official for Sussex/Warren and State Coordinator of ECBO's will review the budget guidelines and provide an introduction of the software and any changes that have been implemented.  In addition, experienced B.A.'s will share their best practices in budgeting and what challenges districts who are receiving less state aid are facing.
